A family following God’s way to life

We are a Christian fellowship in Devonport on the North West Coast of Tasmania, shaped by faith, hope and love — seeking God’s kingdom, making room for his presence, growing to be more like Jesus, and belonging to one another.

Our Purpose: faith, hope and love

Our purpose is all about seeing Jesus transform our lives and our city. We want to see God’s kingdom break through in all areas — and three things hold the centre of that life together.

Faith, hope and love at the centre of Lifeway’s life together Three overlapping circles. Faith is presence and formation; hope is kingdom; love is community. PRESENCE FORMATION Faith Hope Love KINGDOM COMMUNITY
Faith, hope and love — worked out in kingdom, presence, formation and community.

Kingdom

We want to see God’s kingdom break through in all areas — seeing people come to know Jesus through relationship and evangelism, showing our community his love through service, and taking kingdom values everywhere we go. We seek to live out the Micah 6 challenge to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.

Presence

Our God is a life-changing God. We want to be a people of worship and prayer who make room for his Spirit — attentive, expectant, and praying that each person who connects with our church will know the transformational power of the gospel.

Formation

We want a faith that is rich, transformative and powerful. That means seeing people grow more like Jesus through discipleship and teaching, investing in knowing God and being changed by him, with the Bible as our best tool for learning who he is.

Community

We believe that faith and discipleship happen in community. Being family means loving each other even when we don’t feel like it, serving one another and having each other’s backs, and seeing our differences as strengths. We want to eat, laugh, learn and pray together.

Our Prayer

Prayer is key to who we are as followers of Jesus, and to who we are at Lifeway Baptist Church.

We pray for renewal and transformation. Our God is a life-changing God.

Our prayer is that each person who connects with our church will know the transformational power of the gospel. We also pray that through our church God’s kingdom values will be breaking through into our city. As a church, we want to be a place where faith thrives, and hope and love flow from our congregation into the Devonport area.

Our Sunday prayer meeting happens at 9:30 am, before the worship service, in the prayer room. It is an opportunity to pray together for the wider community and for all that is happening in the life of the church.

Our Passions

What we want to invest ourselves in.

City Love

We want to invest in loving and connecting with our city — bringing the good news of Jesus to all who we can, and bringing kingdom values everywhere we go. We want Devonport to be a richer place because of the presence of Lifeway Baptist Church.

Spiritual Growth

We want to invest in having a faith that is rich, transformative and powerful. We are a people of worship, prayer and growth.

Bible Centred Teaching

We want to invest in knowing God and being transformed by him. We believe the Bible is our best tool in learning about God, and the authority on matters of the Christian faith.

Global Missions

We want to invest in seeing the message of Jesus taken to all corners of the globe. We want to support cross-cultural workers to develop unique indigenous Christian communities throughout the world.

Community and Care

We want to invest in blessing and supporting one another. We believe that faith and discipleship happen in community. We want to eat, laugh, learn and pray together.

Social Justice

We want to invest in seeing God’s kingdom break through across the world. We are involved in a number of social justice and development projects, seeking to live out the Micah 6 challenge to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly before God.

Ministry to Children and Young People

We want to invest in seeing new generations come to know Jesus. Children are the future of the church and a vital part of our community.

Community Partnership

We want to invest in partnering with the other churches and organisations of our city and denomination. We believe our desire to see God’s kingdom grow will be best achieved through partnership and cooperation.

Who We Are

Lifeway Baptist Church is a Christian fellowship in Devonport on the North West Coast of Tasmania. We are part of the Tasmanian Baptist Union and affirm the Tasmanian Baptist statement of faith.

A family following God’s way to life with purpose, passion and prayer.

Being a family means many things. It means loving each other, even when we don’t feel like it. It means serving one another and having each other’s backs. It means seeing our differences as strengths, and it means following St Augustine’s advice: in the essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, and in all things love.

As a church, we want to be a people of faith, hope and love — seeking God’s kingdom, making room for his presence, being formed into the likeness of Jesus, and building real community. Jesus said that he is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and we want to see his message change lives throughout our world.

Our Sunday worship services happen at 10 am each week, with song, teaching, fellowship and a kids program. We are a family orientated church and love the diversity of a congregation aged from nine months to ninety years old. We also recognise that our community goes well beyond our Sunday services, and we value the importance of living in relationship and community with each other.

We invite you to join us sometime and see for yourself what we’re about. All are welcome.
